People who are overweight and then lose a lot of weight, or in women that have had several pregnancies, usually there is a general flaccidity of the skin of the abdomen, often combined with a concomitant flaccidity of muscles of the abdominal wall and the appearance of cutaneous stretch marks. Abdominoplastia can improve the aspect of the abdomen returning the tightness to the muscular abdominal wall and recovering the normal cutaneous tension. It is advisable to clarify that this procedure is not intended to make the patient lose weight, but to dry up abdominal, cutaneous and greasy leftovers and recover the normal tension of the muscle wall. For that reason it is advisable to obtain an ideal approximate weight before. This surgery is made under regional anesthesia (Epidural) or general. The surgeon makes an incision immediately over the pubic hair that extends from hip to hip. Through this incision, he releases the skin of the abdomen and allows it to descend. In order to avoid the navel going downwards, it is detached and then reinserted allowing it to emerge through an orifice of the new tightened skin. The navel does not change position in the intervention, although the surgeon has the option of correcting an anomalous location if it exists. Using the same incision, the abdominal muscles that have yield come closer, recovering the tension of the abdominal wall. Finally, the cutaneous leftover is parched. After the procedure it is necessary the use of a binder for several weeks and a negative pressure drainage for several days. In addition the patient must be clearly instructed to rest for 2-3 weeks and to sleep on his or her back for a month. The scars resulting are immediately around the navel and in the Inferior part of the abdomen where it is covered by a bikini. These scars will be clarified and improving with the course of months until the maturation of the scar is complete. This surgery results in a flatter, firmer abdomen and a narrower waist, improving patient’s self-esteem. |
